The transcript is here. Did any of you watch it? I just saw a clip on the local news and his face was so shiny. I guess the first thing he discontinued after the election is his makeup artist. He needs powder.

As for content, he proposed a new economic stimulus plan. A new report is out that the U.S. lost 240,000 jobs in October and unemployment is at 6.5%, its highest since 1994.

More than 10 million people are now jobless, actively seeking work but unable to find it, a number that has spiked by 2.8 million over the past year.

President Bush also had a statement today, telling people to be patient, relief will take time.

The ABA Journal today has an article on how (and which) lawyers will benefit from an Obama Adminstration.

What are we? Chopped Liver? (Not a mention of criminal defense lawyers.)

President Elect Barack Obama has launched a new website, Change.Gov. It will provide news from his transition team. It also has information about where to apply for a job in Obama-Biden Administration.

Applicants for any of these non-career positions - whether in the White House or in any Federal Department, Agency or Commission - should use this website, as applying on-line is the fastest and most accurate way to get your information to us. It's official. Barack Obama won North Carolina. With Indiana, his total electoral votes are now at 364. Only Missouri is still unknown.

So of the battleground states, he won Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana, Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada. The Mandate grows. And it will go down in the history books as the best-run campaign ever, to date.

Earlier I made some suggestions for President Elect Barack Obama's transition team. One was John Wesley Hall, President of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), who before getting his own blog, blogged at TalkLeft as Last Night in Little Rock.

John has just released this NACDL Message From the President on Obama's election. Here are some quotes:

[T]here is much work to be done by the new president and the next Congress. The prison camps at Guantanamo Navy Base have become a symbol of shame around the world. President-Elect Obama should close them within hours of taking the oath of office. Those believed responsible for crimes against Americans should be charged and prosecuted in the federal criminal justice system or in traditional military courts under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

While I whole-heartedly supported Barack Obama for President from the time he became the Democratic nominee, I disagreed with his position on crime issues several times during the campaign. Last night, in his victory speech, he said:

There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as president. ...
I will listen to you, especially when we disagree.

As President, Obama will be appointing an Attorney General, 93 U.S. Attorneys, a few Supreme Court justices and many federal judges. He will champion or oppose legislation on crime issues and penalties. [More..]

People for the American Way writes that President-Elect Barack Obama's win yesterday brings a mandate on our federal judiciary:

Update 11:21 pm: McCain gives concession speech.

1100 pm: CNN, NBC and ABC News: Obama wins. He's over 270.

CBS calls Florida for Obama.

Update: Goodbye Marilyn Musgrave. Colorado went blue big time and Musgrave, one of the most conservative members of Congress got replaced by Democrat Betsy Markey. Five of our seven representatives in Congress and both our Senators are now Democrats. McCain/Palin didn't even win big Republican counties like Jefferson, Arapahoe and Larimer. That's really something.

Bump and Update 10:45 pm ET: The Denver Post also calls Colorado for Obama and Udall. Add 9 to Obama's CNN total, all he needs now is California. The "personhood" amendment is dead.

9:42 pm ET: The Rocky Mountain News reports Barack Obama has won Colorado. Rep. Mark Udall will be our next Senator. Hooray!

Obama won conservative Jefferson and Arapahoe counties by 10 points. He beat McCain in Denver by 4 to 1. [More...]
